Since October 7th, the Bronfman Center has worked both independently and collaboratively with other university offices to respond to the global surge in antisemitism. You can learn more about some of our initiatives by clicking on the headings below.

  • The Bronfman Center has taken proactive steps to enhance the safety and security of Jewish students at NYU. These measures include:

    • Increasing the number of Campus Safety officers in the Bronfman Center, and other spaces where our students congregate.

    • Providing additional training for Campus Safety officers.

    • Implementing capital improvements for security upgrades, such as securing the first floor entryway of Bronfman.

    • Hosting a webinar for Hillel students and staff by the Chief of Hate Crimes Unit from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

  • The Bronfman Center has empowered student and faculty activists to take a stand against antisemitism. These efforts include:

    • Hosting a rally in Washington Square Park with NYU Jewish student leaders, attended by 400 people.

    • Organizing and leading 8 buses of students and NYU community members to the March for Israel rally in Washington, DC.

    • Organizing 40 students to attend JCRC’s rally for Israel outside the UN.

    • Sponsoring conversations with thought leaders and experts on Israel, led by student clubs JStreet NYU, StandWithUS, the Israel Journal, the New Zionist Congress, and others.

    • Providing media training for 15 student leaders with NYU alumnus Jay Rosen.

    • Facilitating a letter from NYU faculty and staff against antisemitism, which has garnered over 150 signatures to date.

    • Hosting a Jewish faculty lunch with 30 attendees and a Jewish faculty meeting with 30 attendees.

    • Organizing two events to witness testimony from October 7 survivors, attended by 200 students and NYU trustee Leonard Stern.

  • The Bronfman Center has continued to provide a vibrant array of Jewish life opportunities for students. These events include:

    • Weekly Shabbat services and meals.

    • Jewish learning opportunities

    • Social events, such as Grad Student cookies and cocoa, 24 Hours of Service with the Israel Journal, Bracelet-Making with Realize Israel, and a Challah Bake for Peace with Beit Sagol.

  • The Bronfman Center has offered individual care and community support to Jewish students, staff, faculty, parents, and alumni. These efforts include:

    • Hosting gathering and processing spaces for Jewish students, with dinners, community lunches, art workshops, and snacks and crafts.

    • Providing individual meetings and calls with over 100 parents and alumni and leading two update webinars for parents and alumni, with 150 individuals participating.

    • Partnering with the Wellness Exchange to offer student gatherings with a crisis counselor.

    • Providing pastoral care to faculty and staff.

  • Our needs have grown increasingly complex this year, requiring us to expand our support systems. With rising antisemitism around the world, our work is more essential than ever. A gift during this critical time will go to our Emergency Fund, which will serve the following needs:

    • Maintaining and expanding critical security infrastructure around the building.

    • Increasing access to mental health services, including pastoral care and group processing spaces.

    • Launching new initiatives that pave the path for a stronger and more positive campus climate for Jewish students.

    • Remaining flexible as new needs arrive daily.
